Movie Trivia

What movie is the following quote from (see comments for answer)?

"I could be the walrus and I'd still have to bum rides off of people"

If you don't have time for this, lighten up... In my opinion, one of the best things we can do to fight terrorism is to continue to enjoy life; unafraid and having fun along the way. While Osama and his buddies are cowering in a cave somewhere, I'll be out enjoying the evening on my deck with a glass of single malt Scotch and tunes streaming over the internet to my wireless outdoor speakers.

I'll take a vacation when I want. Me and dcat are going to Sandals Negil in Jamaica this winter (and probably Hawaii next spring).

So, don't forget to shut down your PC once in a while and go have some fun... maybe a movie.

Give and Take

The Iraqi constitutional vote has been postponed for a few days in order to give them some more time to iron out differences with the Sunnis. I hope the Sunnis don’t expect to get their way on everything... the Shiites and Kurds aren’t likely to go along with that.

As I said before, creating a constitution is a complex process which includes creativity, negotiation, and compromise. If the Sunni leaders aren’t willing to accept this, they may find that a lot of their followers decide that what Parliament offers is good enough to approve and move forward with. They tried to boycott and disrupt the elections and things moved forward anyway.

Too much more resistance and obstruction and they’ll be left even farther behind.

All Sheehaned Out

Mark Steyn's column today in the Chicago Sun-Times puts the Cindy Sheehan story pretty much to rest. For additional comments see Aug. 12 posts at Razor Sharp Claws' and IRAQ THE MODEL.

The money to support the current group of protesters comes from the people who are still in denial about the presidential election (MOVEON.ORG & Co.)... and when nothing more happens for another week or two, the media will pack up and "move on" to the next story. Let's see how long they hang out once the Texas winter hits.

Constitutions Ain't Easy

A lot of people are getting impatient with the Iraqi constitution process. For historical reference, it took the United States of America two tries before we got it right. The first version, The Articles of Confederation weren’t strong enough to hold the fledgling country together.

The Constitution, as we know it today was written almost 10 years after we won our independence. It has been amended 27 times since it was first ratified. The first ten amendments (the Bill of Rights) were added so soon that a lot of people consider them to be part of the original in a way that the other 17 aren’t. The men who wrote it had spent most of their lives contemplating and, for the most part, openly debating the issues of freedom and self-government.

The Iraqis have had mere months to serious consider theirs… give them a little time.
